What should I get as a good starter acoustic guitar?

I have never played guitar before and I really want to learn. I was told to start off with an acoustic guitar. I was also wondering if I could get one at a pawn shop that would be just as good as a brand new one. What should I look for in getting a used guitar to make sure it is payable? What all do I need o start off? Any advise on what to get, where, and.......well........any advise at all! Thanks!
