Do all dentist do the same when cleaning your teeth? Am I overreacting or should I find another Dentist?

I went to get my teeth cleaned for the first time in my life. I was expecting to get my teeth cleaned with fluoride paste, not to have my teeth scd with a sickle probe. I felt him ripping my gums apart. They kept bleeding so bad! I was in so much pain, and he didn't even stop. It was a horrible experience! I think he was way to tough on my gums. Do all dentist do the same? Do they all clean teeth the same way or are there dentists who actually are more gentle? Thank you so much!
