How did exploration lead us into the renaissance?

Although the beginning of the Renaissance and the Age of Exploration were at about the same time, it was probably the other way around. New learning, expansion of information flow (printing press) created an atmosphere that encouraged exploration. On the other hand, one certainly complemented the other.
